DESCRIPTION:
The custom G800 BBK grinding and belt-finishing machine is a high-performance engineering solution, designed and manufactured to meet specific customer requirements.
This machine is not part of GBC’s standard product catalog; rather, it is the result of a bespoke development process tailored to address specific processing needs. Indeed, the G800 BBK offers various configurations capable of processing the surfaces of cylindrical shells with a minimum outside diameter of 508 mm, as well as large-scale tanks.
Processing Specifications for the G800 BBK Grinding Machine
The machine is capable of handling the grinding and belt-finishing of a wide range of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, and Inconel.
Operationally, the G800 BBK is designed to use grinding discs with a diameter of 800 mm and thicknesses ranging from 12 to 16 mm. Furthermore, it can be quickly configured to use an abrasive belt up to 170 mm wide and a rubberized contact wheel with a maximum diameter of 600 mm.
The grinding and belt-finishing head is equipped with motorized axes and can be automatically traversed or tilted by the system to adjust the working angle according to the workpiece geometry, enabling automatic or semi-automatic cycles in both vertical and horizontal orientations.
Transfer and Handling Methods
Handling and logistics for the G800 BBK within production facilities have been optimized through a dual-mode movement system.
During processing, the machine is mounted on a robust trolley base that travels along dedicated rails at a controlled feed rate of 2.89 meters per minute.
For transfers and repositioning within the workshop, the G800 BBK grinding machine utilizes special wheels that allow it to move across standard industrial flooring; it reaches a top speed of 17.95 meters per minute and offers excellent maneuverability, featuring a full 90-degree turning radius in both directions.
An additional logistical advantage is the integrated battery pack. This system enables the unit to be moved—even without a connection to the mains power supply—using a dedicated remote control.
Automation, Control, and Safety
Automation and control of the 40 kW installed power are managed by a control panel with integrated PLC logic mounted directly on the carriage; operating parameters can be set and monitored in real time via a simple, intuitive touchscreen display.
Great attention has been paid to safety and operator ergonomics; the operator is constantly protected by a dedicated safety screen during the material removal process.
Furthermore, dedicated cameras installed on the grinding head allow for visual monitoring of the process progress, which is regulated by specialized software. A wireless control unit enables the operator to remain at a safe distance.
Finally, to ensure a healthy working environment and minimize cleanup time, the machine features a powerful extraction system that immediately captures dust and removed material throughout the entire grinding cycle.
